Black Contractors Call for Separation or Else!

Attorney Eric Vickers and Dr. Mason were among the Black contractors at the recent "Separation of Goals" briefing.

9/9/09 - Attorney Eric Vickers made an appeal to MoDOT and IDOT to postpone bid notices for the Mississippi River Bridge Project until after a waiver to separate the goals of Minority Business Enterprises from Women Business Enterprises under the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program can be submitted and ruled on by the U.S. Department of Transportation. In a statement to those in the meeting, MoDOT's Randy Hitt said, "Some of the funds are federal and holding up the project could put those funds in jeopardy. They are on a use them or lose them basis."

In response to Mr. Hitt's statement, Attorney Eric Vickers said, "You can plan everything. You plan the building of bridges, roads and projects of all types. The only thing that you can't seem to plan is the inclusion of our community. If we are not included in this project, this community doesn't give a damned if the bridge doesn't get built."
