St. Louis Community Empowerment Foundation Treats Academic Achievers at Dunbar Elementary School to a Safe Halloween

(St. Louis, MO) - This Halloween was safe, informative, and fun for over 200 children at Dunbar Elementary School, one of the city's oldest public schools. STLCEF Chairman of the Board, McMillan, became aware of numerous hideous acts on Halloween that prompted him to create a safe Halloween celebration eleven years ago for children so that they reaped all of the treats of Halloween without being at risk.

Parents and teachers join the students for an informative fun-filled hour of activities that rewarded academic achievement, attendance and attitude. Academic Achievers receive special recognitions, educational items, gifts and medallions. All of the children and adults in attendance won prizes. Everyone left with gift bags full of educational games, toys, food and beverages.

McMillan says, "We are proud to support our public schools with programs that reinforce the work the administrators, teachers, parents and volunteers have already begun. I am committed to making a day to remember for our children as an investment into raising their aspirations and overcoming challenges they face today."

The Halloween Safety Program is one of a series of five programs hosted by STLCEF to reinforce academic performance in the schools. The others include: Back To School (August); First Day of School (September); Holiday Programs (December); and Academic Achievement Luncheons (May).

St. Louis Community Empowerment Foundation, also known as the Vashon/JeffVander Lou Initiative, is a non-profit organization inspiring self-sufficiency through neighborhood stabilization, educational initiatives, social service, and economic development programs.
