Recapping Shahid's 'People of Distinction 2009'

The Call to "Nothingness"

Among the many disgraces that Brother Shahid conveyed that he had observed during this inaugural year of the RiverCity Examiner, the one that still rates the highest on his list is the "Con job that Reverend Dr. Freddie James Clark, Pastor of the Shalom Church - City of Peace ran on the people of St. Louis." Shahid has said, "If his is the 'City of Peace,' it is the only peaceful place in this city and surrounding areas."

Rev. Clark was awarded the "Retroactive Bootlicker of the Year" honor by Anthony Shahid in RCE's Hot Summer Edition. "His term as Bootlicker runs concurrent with the year since his implementing his "Oneness" movement, which was premised on 'Stopping the Violence in our City'," said Shahid (paraphrased).

"Considering that the violence in St. Louis has seen a steady incline since the movement began, Clark's efforts to 'take back the streets' were a clear and undeniable failure," Anthony continues. Shahid made clear that he understands that there are many ways to diminish the violence and that Clark may be doing some things that help in that order. "His self-congratulatory celebrations of 'Nothingness' is not a method that I would consider applicable," Shahid stated. "We need men on the streets saving our young brothers from the perils that await them. What we don't need are rallies and gatherings that create an illusion of something real and in my opinion are dog and pony shows to get some money for a program that doesnšt help a damned bit. At least he landed a CDL Certification roll with MoDOT for his Bootlicking cohort, Cedric Clark. Now maybe if we can get the licensees JOBS, it will help. That's always the part of the equation that none of these Bootlickers think about. They got every training program in the book and no jobs."

Slay's Sambo

In our May edition, Shahid honored Public Safety Director, Charles Bryson with a "Sambo" award. The character 'Sambo', from Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin," was Simon Legreešs favored slave flunkey. According to a number of people in St. Louis' Black community, Francis Slay is viewed much like a Simon Legree and Public Safety Director, Charles Bryson is referred to as Slay's 'Sambo' (that is, on a good day).

By and large, the people have never forgiven or forgotten the fact that Bryson was selected by Slay to carry out the threat of former Public Safety Director, Samuel Simon (Slay's cousin who left the office amid scandal over Firefighter breathing apparatuses) against St. Louis' first, and probably last in this lifetime, Black Fire Chief, Sherman George. Just as Legree had done in Stowe's novel, Slay pitted Black man against Black man and achieved a result that will have a lasting negative economic impact on the Black community and their opportunities in the St. Louis City Fire Department.

"Most Inspiring St. Louisan" Presented By Shahid's Most Notable Bootlicker

The President of the St. Louis City Chapter of the NAACP could have expected no less an honor from Shahid when his organization gave a 'Most Inspiring St. Louisan Award' to the Mayor. "Brother, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (the title actually reflects how obsolete they are), now I guess we know what color."

MoDOT's Barn Boss

During America's days of slavery, when a slave owner had occasions to take his pigs, chickens, cows and other stock to a fair for showing or to the market for trading, he often left a slow-witted slave in charge of the empty structure which housed the stock: the barn. That slave felt as though he was doing an incredibly important deed for the master and from this he took a great deal of esteem. The slave would guard the deserted building with his life and threaten fiercely any other slave that questioned his duties or approached his post. This sad and obtuse lackey was called the Barn Boss.

As MoDOT continues its disparate allocations of tax-payer stimulus dollars (our own money), the agency depends heavily on the oversight of its External Civil Rights Director to ensure that minority interests are taken into consideration. MoDOT depends on the watchful eye of its Barn Boss, Mr. Lester Woods - MoDOT's Director of External Civil Rights, Pastor of Evangelism at United Community Cathedral and the Evangelism Director for the New Vision Jurisdictional Fellowship.

Shahid's First Awardee

When Brother Shahid asked me if I would run a Bootlicker Award in my publication on his behalf, I told him that I would run any opinion that a person is willing to stand by. We all know that Anthony will stand by opinions, so I had no trouble with the idea.

At first, Shahid had a bit of trouble selecting, because he felt that there were so many worthy of the honor of Bootlicker of the Month. After a lot of thought and consideration, he concluded that one of his first awardees should be Police Commissioner Julius Hunter. "It's nothing that he's done in particular, but he's good for it because he's just been a good nigger all around," Shahid explained. "In the streets we call it free casing him."

First Runner Up, Bootlicker of the Year

"If the Retroactive Bootlicker of the Year, Minister Freddie Clark, is unable to fulfill the duties of his title, then the First Runner Up, James H. Buford, President/CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will assume the roll as Bootlicker of the Year," Shahid stated. "He is far and away the most qualified runner up and there is only one Black person who has ever disputed this fact..."

The Punk of the Month

This Shahid award ran in our Back to School Edition August 2009. That edition is known as our "hottest to date." The paper received countless emails of "Right on Brother Shahid" sentiments. It prompted a hilarious response from the awardee, which was an attack on me, the Publisher of this paper. Of course I enjoyed the "P.R.," even if it was a misguided attack on the messenger. RiverCity Examiner prints this disclaimer with all of Brother Shahid's opinions:

Disclaimer: The opinions expressed by Mr. Shahid in his editorials do not necessarily reflect the views of RiverCity Publication, its Board, Management or Staff.

I guess that wasn't enough to shield me from the wrath of Shahid's "Punk of the Month." When I mention the backlash against me from his awardee, Brother Shahid said, "The Punk knows to keep my name out of his mouth and what he writes."

The worse thing about these Buckwheats is that they don't even have the heart to step up to try to be Kareem of Wheat," Shahid says. "They are a disgrace."
